'A nation bleeds': Genocide of Tamils in Sri Lanka

As a genocidal war on Tamils intensified in the island of Sri Lanka since January, two Norwegian Tamil artists and IT professionals, V. Thamizhan and V. Thiraviyan, engaged in an attempt to create a documentary film with material freely available on the Internet to educate their friends and to serve as a tool of medium for the Norwegian Tamils to communicate their message to the Norwegian society and to their younger generation. The result was 35 minutes documentary, which they improved also involving available expertise among Tamils in Oslo, Norway. Encourgad by the community, they evolved their attempt into a project to be utilized also in other languages based on the principle 'think locally, act globally'.
The documentary seeks to convey the message that the genocide of Tamils in Sri Lanka has a history of 60 years. It describes the background of the conflict and the proportions of the genocide in its various manifestations: physical, psychological, cultural and structural. The documentary is to be distributed in Tamil, English and Norwegian versions. The users are free to copy, distribute and transmit the work as long as they attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor on a non-commercial basis without the rights to alter or bulid upon the work.
More than 1600 Tamils were killed in Sri Lankan attacks on civilians during the six weeks when we worked to put together the documentary, say Thamizhan and Thiraviyan.
